  11. This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a
  12. world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.amiga.demos.
  13. This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.
  14. Procedural details are below.

  16. We are proposing to turn the alt.sys.amiga.demos and the
  17. alt.amiga.demos newsgroup into comp.sys.amiga.demos.
  18. The group will be unmoderated.
  19.  
  20. To participate in the discussion, follow the discussion in news.groups.
  21.  
  22. RATIONALE: comp.sys.amiga.demos
  23.  
  24. There currently are two forums existing on the major commercial
  25. online services that relate to the Amiga demo-scene.  These two
  26. groups (alt.amiga.demos and alt.sys.amiga.demos) are both extremely
  27. spammed lately. Therefore we propose to create a new newsgroup,
  28. to annihilate the spamming (comp.* groups are less noisy than
  29. alt.* groups) and thereby joining the two existing groups into one
  30. new group.

  32. The proposed group will establish a central location where all
  33. persons interested in the Amiga demo-scene or Amiga demos in general
  34. can meet without limitations based upon which commercial online service
  35. or other internet service provider they utilise for access.

  37. CHARTER: comp.sys.amiga.demos
  38.  
  39. Expected topics of discussion include (but are not limited to):
  40.  - latest demos released;
  41.  - discussion of old and "classic" demos
  42.  - coding-tricks;
  43.  - anything relating to "scene" demos, but not game demos;
  44.  
  45. A FAQ file is already developed to prevent getting the same
  46. questions asked over and over again.
  47.  
  48. The newsgroup will be unmoderated.
  49.  
  50. Commercial postings are not welcome as the group has proposed aims
  51. for the Amiga demo-scene and not demos from games.
  52.  
  53. Binary files in any form are prohibited. However a posting may
  54. include a reference to an URL or FTP pointing to such binary files.

  58. PROCEDURE:

  60. This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes.  In this phase
  61. of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups
  62. should be raised and resolved.  The discussion period will continue
  63. for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
  64. proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
  65. Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion
  66. warrants it.  Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.
